I noticed that your label state no peanuts could be in your butters. However, my son has some tree nut allergies. Is it safe for him to consume your coconut butter or Tahini. Could there be traces of nuts present? There are no peanuts in our facility. We do work with other known allergens, tree nuts & soy. We work very hard to insure that there is no cross contamination of products. This includes thoroughly cleaning utensils, machinery and storage units. If your son was allergic to walnuts, for example, and we didn't properly clean our machinery after walnut butter, the risk of your son having a reaction would be significantly increased. As I said, we clean all the equipment and other items between different products. We take the internal components of the machine apart and clean them. We separate productions and do longer runs to insure that the risk of trace amounts be minimized to a smaller portion of the product we are making.
The FDA required companies to label food allergens that are made in the same facility. You will often see information that says the allergens are eggs, shellfish, nuts, soy, fish, gluten and peanuts. These are most of the large major categories of food allergens.
The answer to your question would largely depend on how severe the allergy is. Less Severe Allergy = Less Risk. I would give it to him but keeping aware that it is possible although not likely that he may have a reaction. My coworker's son is allergic to all nuts and has no problem with the tahini, soy nut butter and coconut products that we make here at Premier Organics. That is not luck. It is our commitment to isolating and eliminating cross contamination of allergens . We still have to let you know that there is a risk of trace amounts that we cannot totally eliminate unless we get an isolated equipment line.
Thanks for asking this question. I hope it is helpful. |
